A God With A Mind!

There are not many words in the English Bible that define intense hatred for a thing, an act, an object or a person than the word ‘abomination’. All sins are evil but God shows special, intense hatred for some particular sets of sins and He promised to set His face and mind to the destruction of those that take part in, or rejoice in the others’ commission of, those acts.   We do ourselves a favour by noting them.

But first we may safely consider the dictionary definition of the word:

[sgmb id=”1″]
1. something horrible: an object of intense disapproval or dislike

2. something shameful: something that is immoral, disgusting, or shameful

3. intense dislike: a feeling of intense dislike or disapproval toward somebody or something (literary)*

We may consider a few places where the word occurs in the Bible:

Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Deu 7:25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

Deu 7:26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

(Comment: We hope this makes it clear enough that no one can bring  images and idols and artefacts of idolatry into his house and escape from the house being haunted)
Deu 12:29 When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goes to possess them, and thou succeeds them, and dwells in their land;

Deu 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.

Deu 12:31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hates, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
Deu 13:12 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

Deu 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

Deu 13:14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
Deu 17:1 Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness: for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abomination the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

(Readers should note God’s hatred for the bold parts of verses 10 and 11 above. These practices are now accepted after being re-named in various Word of Faith, Charismatic and Pentecostal ‘churches’. It is either they are receiving ‘anointing’ from the grave of a dead person or they are openly communicating with familiar spirits.)

Deu 27:14 And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

Deu 27:15 Cursed be the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

(Every reader who attends the Catholic or Eastern Orthodox Church should note God’s anger against any representation of any figure or image for purposes of worship. Your only excuse is saying God’s words are inferior to the teachings of the Pope in your church.)

Pro 3:32 For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

Pro 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

Pro 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Pro 15:9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loves him that follows after righteousness.

Pro 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

Pro 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Pro 17:15 He that justifies the wicked, and he that condemns the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

Pro 21:27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind?
Pro 28:9 He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Eze 16:50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

Luk 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defiles, neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

One unmistakable fact these passages bring out is the point that God is a Person with intense feeling of hatred for sins but particularly for gross evils.

He is not an impersonal, amorphous or an amoral Being that occults, Hindus, Buddhists, Christian Science, Mind Science, AMORC, ENCKANKAR, Word-of-Faith, Pentecostals and Charismatics make Him out to be.

He is NOT a set of laws or principles or Force that anyone can learn or apply: He is a Person with a mind. His mind is made plain only in the Bible. And He is the One everyone must deal with.

The least anyone can do is watch out for His feelings as expressed in His words. Do you know Him? Are you sure He knows you as His son or daughter?

To Him, abominations are not only doing those things He hates, they include having pleasure in those that do those things.
